Melissa Gunstone has spent her career filling the gap the clinical system leaves behind. As a Kinesiologist and graduate of Western University's Kinesiology program, Melissa began her journey in a physiotherapy clinic — where she watched older adults complete their post-surgery programs on schedule, only to be sent home with exercise sheets and uncertainty. Despite weeks of progress, they left without the skills, support, or confidence to maintain what they'd built.
One client changed everything — a neighbour in his late seventies recovering from knee surgery. When Melissa continued supporting his program one-on-one, she watched something remarkable happen. Simple daily walks became milestones. His mobility returned — but more importantly, so did his confidence. That's when she understood: getting back to baseline was never enough. From that insight, HomeStretch Active Living was born — now a trusted team of kinesiologists serving older adults across Canada through in-home care, retirement community workshops, and specialised fall prevention and brain-and-balance programs.
